B1 to H1

Hi,

I have a B1 visa which is valid for 10 years i.e till 2018.
My spouse is travelling on H1B this year.
Is it possible to search for job on B1 and file a H1.
Additionally if i apply for H4 would my B1 get cancelled ?

Conversion from B1/B2 to H1 is not easily approved by USCIS. Also, B1/B2 entry would allow you max 6 Months which may not be enough to search for a job as well as do a conversion to H1. Advisable to file H4, get H4 stamped, travel on H4 and search for job while on H4. Once you get a job, the employer can file a COS from H4 to H1. B1/B2 is typically not cancelled while going for H4 stamping.
