My employer is panning to process initiate my H1 but I have not receive any notification from them so wondering what is the data to start processing for H1.

Is there any prior work need to be done before April if applying for H1.

There is lot of prep work done by attorney prior to April 1st. All documentation and paperwork should reach USCIS on 01-April-2014. To be on the safe side the documents should reach the attorney before 15-March-2014 https://www.immihelp.com/h1b-petition-documents/.

If your employer hasnt collected your passport/educational/experience details its time you ask them.
