H1B Visa Stamping

Hi,

I am currently in US on H4 visa and looking for my H1B visa in coming year, Do I need to go for Visa stamping inperson to US consulate or its only the change in status?

If applied as Change of Status you need not go for stamping. But considering that there is barely 1 week for cap to open, I am afraid if you apply in this year's cap you may not have enough time.
