Travel to India during H4 Visa extension

First of all let me thank immihelp for maintaining a forum like this... Great job!!!

Can any one help me with the following query

Currently me and my husband is in US. My husband is on H1B visa and I am on H4 visa. We have our visa and I94 valid until Sept 2014. Now my husbands employer is planning to file extension for our visa( both H1B and H4) in April 2014. I am pregnant and due to health issues I would like to travel back to India in May 2014 and will be returning with the baby in January 2015.

1) Can I travel during my H4 visa extension in process. I also read that if I travel during extension process my Visa wil be abandoned. What does that mean..In that case what do I do to return to US

2)Or can my husband just apply for H1B extension. In that case what has to be done to extend my visa.

3) Do I need to go to any counslate in India for visa stamping.

4) What is the process to apply H4 for my new born.

It would be of great help if anyone could detail the process to be followed. I am totally confused on what is to be done.
