  • FNU Name Issue

    Hi Everyone,

My Passport has no surname. So I have two names in Given Names field. Hence at the time of stamping they asked me to write FNU as First Name and put my whole name in Surname as apparently they don't stamp applications without a surname. Now in my VISA I have FNU as first name and my whole name as last name. Also the same in I-94 and SSN that I applied for.
    I have two questions :

    1. I applied for SSN 10 days ago and I have not received it yet. I had got a receipt from the officer saying that it will be delivered within two weeks. But typically in 10 days. Should I be worried?

    2. At the time of extension of my VISA would my name issue have any bearing on the decision made by the USCIS.

Please advise and help me out. I think I am in a sticky situation here.

    Thanks

    Hi,
This is not an issue. My wife had the same problem. First name is FNU. Same got reflected in Visa, I94, SSN & Driving license.

She is even into job. It does not impact anything.
But sooner you correct on passport, it is better.
After the name change in passport, you can change in Visa, I94, SSN, License, etc.,

I have heard people even got green card with the same name issue from USCIS, mainly indians
    Hope this helps.

    Regards,
    Ranjit Kumar Subramanian.
