Doubt on RFE response time

Hi immihelp,

My application is in RFE state for last 2.5 months.
I read in USCIS website that "The maximum response time for an RFE may not exceed 12 weeks (84 days)"
I asked my employer abt this and he told me that he'll respond to RFE this week.I'm currently in 12th week now.
Please let me know what happens if it exceeds more than 12 weeks to respond to an RFE?

Thats a generic date, every RFE has a corresponding date by which it needs to be responded back, preferably at least a week before to accommodate for any late postal delivery. If one does not respond by the due date the application can be rejected by USCIS. You need to push your employer hard to respond ASAP.
