Steps to cancel H4 Visa

HiAll ,

I have travelled to the US in a H4 Visa & after I am back in India I got divorced. I haven't cancelled my H4 Visa yet. Now my company has sponsored H1B visa for me & it has cleared the lottery process as well. Will this H4 Visa affect my current H1B visa ? I got a call from US Consulate asking to cancel my H4 Visa stamped in my Passport. Please share the steps to cancel the H4 Visa .

Normally there is no such request from the consulate . I believe your ex spouse would have requested the same to the consulate. But nonetheless, you can ask the consulate itself about the process. It should be as simple as writing a letter for cancelling the H4 and attaching the divorce certificate and submitting the passport. It should not negatively impact the H1.
