Can initial Port of Entry & Work Location be different for new H1B?

My work location is near Boston, MA. I need to fly from Sydney, Australia. Even if I book a ticket from Sydney to Boston, there is a change-over at LAX or SFO. I hear that in the US, even if you have to change flights, you will pass through Immigration clearance. Will the IO ask why am I passing through LAX/SFO when my work location is Boston ?

You don't have to land directly at Boston if that is your work location. Tell them you have a change over. I hope you do have the tickets for LAX/SFO to Boston.
