Please let me know the process to apply for the lost passport (H4 visa) ,let me know the prerequisite/time frame for the same.

One should be extra careful with such documents. Hopefully you would have a scanned copy for reference.

Is she in US or Outside US? First thing irrespective is police complaint, then if in US take that police complaint to US consulate to get a new passport. If outside US, and in home country need to apply for fresh passport. Re issue of loss passport has its own complications and delays and there is no time frame.

As for visa, she would have to attend fresh H4 visa at a US consulate outside US in order to get one.

I have the scanned copy of the first /last /visa pages of the passport. Actually I lost in the premises of IRS building on last Thursday evening , I reported the same to the concern authorities , hoping someone would reply back.

Can I wait for 3 days or so & then complaint to Police?

Actually my wife is staying with me currently in US.

actually its misplaced in the building & we could not realize until we reached home , immediately I reported in the building.
The envelope which has passport is with my current address as well my employer address is also present,so had a last hope.

Sure , I will report to the local police on monday .

Yes , I did report to the police station , they said they will give a notes , as a reference of the lost passport, is that sufficient to apply for new passport.
