F1 to H4 Conversion

Hello All,

My husband entered USA on H4. He got his visa converted to F1 from H4. I want to know the procedure for converting F1 to H4 again. Please let us know if we can do this conversion ourselves without involving my employer?

Two options.

1) File F1 to H4 COS. If F1 is already effective, then your husband should be maintaining his F1 status for the COS to be successful. You need to file form I-539 to convert his status from F1 to H4. Follow the below link. I-539 can be filed by yourself if done carefully (no need to get the help of an attorney).

2) Leave the country and re-enter back in H4 visa.
