  • Marriage Certificate required for Interview

    Hi Team

Can anyone confirm if "Marriage Certificate" is mandatory to be taken for consulate interview. On ustraveldocs.com, they mention:-

Your dependents should bring all required documents for any nonimmigrant visa, plus:

An original marriage (for your spouse) and/or birth certificate (for unmarried children under 21), as applicable[/I]

In my case, we don't have Marriage Certificate however have each other names mentioned on our passports as Spouses. Will that help? Please share experiences? Has anyone been specifically asked for a Marriage Certificate during Interview?

Marriage certificate for spouse and birth certificate for children are mandatory documents. How did you get each other's name in the passport without a marriage certificate?

This is my opinion not legal advice.

      Hi Raghvi

We got each other names on passport using an affidavit called "Annexure D" which many Notary Advocates sitting outside the passport office can prepare if you want to have Spouse name added on passports and does not have marriage certificate. It works at passport office when you submit it in original.

So you think even after each other names on passport, we might be asked for Marriage Certificate? Just to be safe, I got another Annexure-D prepared this morning so I have an original again if asked for.

If you are going for any kind of dependent visa (H4/F2..) you need to show the marriage certificate. Some people also take their wedding cards, photos to the interview. The above two are optional but marriage certificate (original) is a mandatory requirement.

I would say get yourself a marriage certificate. It hardly takes a day and doesnt cost much.
