Hi,
My friend is going for H1b visa interview this week, her H1b was applied by a consultancy in usa and she is in India working for an MNC. She is unsure on how to answer this question:

- What is your husband's plan if you leave to work in USA?

what we do not understand is what should we try to convince them?
- you go there add value to usa.. and plan to settle ...
or
- you go there use 6 years of h1b, then decide on gc....
or
- you go there work for 6 years and come back

which of these three do they expect from a person applying for h1b?

An H1 visa is for temporary professionals, not people planning on immigrating. I am not sure why any mention of a greencard or settling in the U.S. would come up at all.

Once your friend's H1 visa is approved, the spouse could apply for the H4 visa. This is the visa a dependent of an H1 would have.

My question is around what to answer in the interview. Every question related to long term plans or what is the plan for your spouse, would be tied around what they expect of a h1b candidate, hence the need to understand what the best way to tell the story.

How can someone else advise on what this particular spouse's plans are? What are they? I am not sure what you mean by story? They do not expect anything of a spouse of an H1 visa holder. They expect the H1 to be a temporary worker here which they will be as they are sponsored in by a company. The spouse only has 2 options. Come here to live with the H1 on an H4 visa or don't.
