Passport expiring before the validity of H1

Hi All,

What will happen if the passport is expiring few months before the h1 validity, considering full 3 years of H1 is mentioned in validity.

I could understand I cannot renew my passport right now and when I enter US, my I94 will be limited to passport expiry which means a loss of few months. Would I have any chance to extend I94 to full 3 years, after I renew my passport , probably 6 -8 months before its expiration?

I-94 will be issued until the H1B petition expiry date as long as the passport is valid for more than a year.
