Does passport need to be stamped for re-entry?

Hello,
I have a valid H1-B, but the stamp on the passport is a little old (though from the same company). I will be travelling to India, but could not find an appointment at the consulate before return journey.
My question is : Do I really have to have a stamp for re-entry?

You will need a valid visa to re-enter US. so see the validity period of the visa.
