Can one work while waiting for H4 EAD extension?

I will be greatly obliged if someone can answer this:
Can a person continue working if he is on H4 EAD (expiring in a week) but has applied for an EAD extension (30 days back) and has the receipt notice.

No. Need to have valid card in hand in order to work.
