H4 stamping while H1b visa is expired.

Hello,
I have a question regarding H4 revalidation for my wife. My H1 visa in the passport has expired, but I have my extension approved and have the approved I-797. I am currently working in US and will be traveling to India with my wife but her appointment for H4 is before mine for H1b. Is it necessary to have a valid H1 visa stamped in my passport for her to get her H4 revalidated?

No. Proof of approval of extension would do.
