What are all possible options for H4 in USA... except sitting at home with boredom?

I am in US. working in a company. applied H1b this year (April, 2016). Got picked up in the lottery.
Wife's in India. Working for a good company for about 3 yrs now. In Nov 2016 I am going to india and while coming back in end of Dec 2016, I want to bring her with me here to US.

The only possibility I can think of is get my H1b stamped, get her H4 stamped, make her quit her job and come with me to US. However, she can't work here until my Green Card application starts (new H4 EAD rule). That's gonna take abt another year or a two. So she can't work in US in whole 2017 at least. And this is bad for her career and she'll be so damn bored here.

Please suggest me some concrete alternatives.

She can study here. She may also volunteer in local activities but can't earn money in ANY form.

An H4 visa holder has be to careful to not run afoul of H4 restrictions; not all forms of volunteerism is permitted. Better to check with the interviewing officer first.
