Continuing work on a pending H4 EAD renewal applicatoin

Hi All,
I have recently applied for my H1/H4 (for my spouse) extension. My wife is on an H4 EAD for which I also filed extension along with my application. She is currently working.

If the H4 EAD extension doesn't come through by the time her H4 EAD expires (around 70 days left), does she have to stop working until her H4 EAD extension card arrives and then resume working again?

Or

Can she continue work since the extension has already been filed.

Nobody is sure of what the correct rule is. I hope somebody here can help.

She has to stop working. One needs actual EAD card in hand in order to work on EAD.
