Change Employer After 5 1/2 years on H1B with I-140

Hi, My current H1B is expiring on 01/05/2017 and also i am going to complete my 6 years of quota at the same time. I have an approved i-140 from my current employer, approved in April 2016 (3months ago).
Is this possible to change a different employer at this stage? Can the new employer use my current employer's I-140 to get my visa transferred?
