Applied for H1b- no updates yet. Current visa expires on Oct 1 2016.

Hi, I am currently on F2 visa and have applied for H1b under regular processing. There is no update on the case yet from USCIS - it shows "case received". My husband who is currently on F1 visa will move into H1b visa from Oct 1 2016 (His H1b is already approved).
What will happen if I do not get to hear any approval/rejection before Oct 1 2016. will I be out of status from Oct 1, 2016.
When should I apply for H4 visa? If I apply for H4 now, what happens if my H4 is approved first (or) H1b is approved first.
