H1B stamping and Passport Expiration

Hi All,

This is my situation:

Passport expires on 15th May 2017

H1B Renewed from 10/1/2016 - 9/30/2019. I have the approved I 797

I am travelling to India on Dec 2nd and will get the visa stamped based on the I 797.

Question:

1. Will there be an issue in stamping if my passport is expiring in less than 6 months from the date of submission for stamping (5th or 6th Dec)?

2. If I do get the visa stamped, will there be an issue when entering US back on 18th Dec?

3. Someone told me that to reenter US I will need an electronically printed passport instead of the hand written one that I currently have. They won't let me in otherwise. Is this true?


Please let me know. I may have to redo all of my travel plans.

Advisable to get a fresh passport before going for visa stamping.
