How many days without employment on H1

Hello,

I am on H1 and my employer is asking me to relocate to new state or they will lay me off and I dont want to relocate. Need advice on following:
1. If I resign then how many days do I have to find new employer and do H1 transfer
2. If I am laid off then how many days do I have to find new employer and do H1 transfer
