Advisable time to re-entering USA before I94 expiry

Hi,
I have a question regarding my H1B visa I94 expiry date. My stamped H1B visa and I94 expire in December 31 2017. I am planning to visit India by November, 2017. Thus, I have a question on what is the best time to re enter USA before I94 expiry. I am planning to come back by mid of December so that I will have only 15 days left fr I94 expiry. Thus, will I be permitted at the port of entry without enquiry?
Please provide any additional details regarding this case.
