Urgent! Lost passport with attached H1B visa

Hi,

I just lost my passport with attached H1B visa stamp in NYC last week, i am very anxious about my situation.

Right now, i am searching for a new job, that mean when i get a new company to employ me, i have to transfer my old H1B visa to a new one under the new company.

I have three questions and would appreciate if someone could give me some advice:

1)Can I get my H1B visa re-issued in US, or I can only get it in my home country.
2)Would they cancel my H1B visa if i report to US immigration dept i lost my Visa stamp
3)Would there be any problems in transferring my H1B Visa to the new company if i report my lost of Visa Stamp ?

I would greatly appreciate if you could shed some light on my questions.

Please check with attorneys, but as for as the visa stamping goes, it's difficult to get it stamped here. Also every visa has a control number which is the tracking number ( Normally same with the H1 petition Number), so they shld able to track.

In my personal opinion, US is a country which accepts human mistakes/errs. So don't worry.

You should Come to Your Home Country

Once you lost your passport in US that will not be revalidated in US or in canada and mexico .
you should come back to your home country then only it will be revalidated
there is no rule to give duplicate visa thats immpossible i also got the same problem when i was in US.

if you have new I-94 then you can work there no need to come to your
home Country till your I-94 Expires

if you have all payslips and W2 forms then you will get the New H1b visa
