H1B extension and Passport expiry

I am having this situation, plz guide.
-> my passport, H1B visa, I-94, I-797, passport are nearing expiry with same date on all, june 2018.
-> i had to change my job in Jan 2018. New employer has filed for the extension and visa transfer in normal processing. There is not status update yet.
Q. If there is no update on the visa transfer by June 2018, how long can i further stay in US?
Q. I applied for new Passport in US. Should i update my current employer about the new passport? (Employer is aware of passport expiry)
Q. Any amendment should be filed by employer about the change new passport?
Q. Can i travel to India in May 2018, and come back to US after getting stamping with the new I-797? or what are my consequences for travelling?
