  • Query regarding filling in DS-156 form

    Hi All,

I got married recently and my husband is a greencard holder.I am trying for a H1B through a consultant. Should I fill in the marital status in DS-156 as married? Also there is a column in this form where I have to fill in if any relative/spouse is present at US and their status there.I am worried that if I fill in the correct details, I may be considered as a potential immigrant and there could be problems at the time of the interview. My consultant wants me to fill in the correct details.I am totally confused now....Please can anybody out there help me...Has anybody faced such a situation?
    Thanks in advance

---- YES, if you are married then you say you are married

if any relative/spouse is present at US and their status there.

---- If you have relatives (brother, sister, not distant cousins) then you truthfully say YES and given tehir status as GC holder or citizen

H1 is a dual intent visa, where in you can come to US for work and also apply for a green card (the visa is totally independent as it allows you to work and not be dependent on your brother/sister for your livelihood)

          DS 156 Form

what should we say if wife/husbend is a GC holder?

---- I guess you are referring to the DS 156 form and the related question. If your wife/husband is a GC holder honestly and truthfully say so
