  • H1B stamping in Toronto - Qn. on Bar coded forms_ PLs help

    Hi Friends,

I'm planning to apprear for stamping in Toronto and I have a few questions on that.

    1. When I took the appointment online from nvars.com, I didnt fill out the DS156 and 157 forms online since it was mentioned that those forms will be mailed out to me in a few days.
Is it mandatory that we need to take only the DS forms which were filled online or they accept the hand filled forms mailed to us from the consulate, Canada.(Looking at some posts where people have mentioned taking Barcoded forms to the consulate. How can I get them now?)

    2. Since this is the first time H1B stamping for me ,it would be really helpful if you can provide me the list of documents needed. I have not yet received any w2 forms yet. Is that OK?

    3. Which hotel is closest to US consulate Toronto?

    4. How long it takes to receive the passport once visa is granted?

    Any suggestions are heartily welcome.

    Thanks a lot.

      Hi Vibha,

Here is some information which may be helpful.

      1. It is easier and faster to fill in the form online and to generate (by using the "continue" button on the form) a bar coded form which you can print out and take the copy with you.
But, if you don't have it, still you can go to the consulate and there you can get it filled up. This is possible but not Desirable.

      2. Not sure about any W-2 forms but I think, if you have few recent pay stubs from your employer that should work.

      4. You can collect your passport (option is available only to those people who are from US), in most cases, the very next business day.
If there is any kind of query or if the consulate needs more information (in very few cases), it may take longer.

      - Neel.
      Thanks,

        Vibha,

Couple of more things to keep in mind when you are appearing for Toronto Consulate --

        1. Toronto Consulate accepts fees only in form of "Scotia" bank receipts! (Other US consulates in other centers accept "cash" also!!) (Check the information guide for more information on how to pay money to Scotia bank)

        2. In this center, every applicant (female also) need to fill up form ds-157. In other centers, Only Adult-Male applicant is required to fill up this form.

        - Neel.
        Thanks,
