Can H4 dependents apply for work authorization

So can someone with an H4 status have legal standing to apply for EAD/Work authorization if they can prove the neccesity to work. For instance if they have student loans they have to pay off.

---- NO, you cannot. You may apply for a H1 or F1 unless if the principal applicants GC process is in advanced stages of I-140 having been approved and having applied for I-485. I am not fully conversant of the process these days. You may want to check up with an attorney
