Hi All,

My H1 and my wife's H4 visas will be expiring in the month of Aug 2007.

Is it necessary that my wife should be present in the U.S. at the time of applying for the extension of her visa?

Can she do that from India before coming to US without much hassle?

Yes, you can easily apply for her extension from the US even if she's in India. But if she's going to be flying back after the expiry date on the current visa stamp (Aug 2007), she would need to go for an interview with the consulate.
