L1-B to H1-B

I am in L1-B now. Cuurently in US. I wish to transfer my L1 to H1-B with other company. After getting H1-B approval. Should i need to go back to india for stamping? OR Is it possible to continue to work in US with the new company after getting changed my visa status and new i-94 ?
