H1 Transfer and Extension Simultaneously

Can we have an H1 transfer and extension done simultaneously ?

I have applied for my H1 transfer in Jan-07. And my current visa expires in Aug-07. My current company wants to file an extension. If they file an extension now, what will happen to the H1 transfer petition ? Can USCIS reject both the petitions ? Or will they process both petitions.
