Travel: passport expires before H1B extension expires (no stamp)

Hi all, has anyone faced this situation before?. My passport expires before my 3 year H1B extension expires. I do not have the visa stamp yet. I would like to travel outside the US and so want to get the visa stamped. I can't yet get a new passport until november (1 year limit). Can I go to a US embassy to get the visa stamped before november?. The requirements seem to state that the passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months AFTER visa expiration for a visa stamp. Does this apply to my situation?..

---- As per the above statement you have a Visa that is valid till Dec. 2009. There is absolutely no need to lose sleep over this matter. You can get your Passport renewed only in Nov. 2008. Till then you can relax. Once a newe Passport is in your hands carry both the Passports while travelling overseas and show the Passport that has a Visa at the POE to enter US

Subramanya, I think I have not made myself clear. I am currently in the 2nd 3year term, i.e I have the I797 approval for the 3year visa, not the visa stamp. The first 3year visa has ended already. If I need to travel outside the US, I need to have the visa stamped to be able to reenter right?. The question is, can I get this visa stamp before november since before then my passport will expire before the visa...

I am also in same situation now, can you tell me how you have solved this problem.

My passport expires on Aug 2016 and My Visa expires on Sep 2016. I am planning to travel India on Sep 2013 ( I am currently on OPT Cap Gap), I need to go to Visa Interview before I return to US on Oct 2013. But to schedule visa interview I need to have passport with expiration date 6 months beyond my VISA expiration date and I can't renew my Passport before 1 year of my passport expiration date. How can I come out of this Problem? Thanks in advance.
