Need urgent advise

I am on H1 visa currently in US. My client doesnot have any project and is planning to send me back to India in week's time.

I am planning to quit my current company and file a change of status to L2(dependant visa). My husband is currently on L1 visa in US.

1) Will I be in illegal status till my change of status gets approved?
2) What is best option for me to be in legal status after I leave my current job?

Please help. I need advise ASAP as I have very less time.

--Your status is valid as long as you have a valid I-94.

2) What is best option for me to be in legal status after I leave my current job?

--Apply for L2 asap and have your valid I-94 .
