I dont think any insurance company will cover you in the 6th month of pregnancy. It will be very expensive. Its better that you deliver in India, take 6 months rest and then fly.

      Thanks for the reply.

But if the employer is providing insurance will that cover my delivery there? How much it cost if i bare all expenses of delivery?

$8,000 for normal delivery and $15,000+ for complications. Dont waste your money here for delivery. Deliver the baby there and then come here and save $$. Besides, in India, you would have your parents and relatives taking care of you immediately after the delivery, here there's no one.

Yes, the suggestion from leifbo**** sounds good. There is no point in coming here just for delivery without the insurance. Things can be very tough without insurance. It makes sense to go to US if and only if you know that you are covered under the insurance and also if you have someone to take care of you here. Otherwise, it's better in India.

Just to add one more point.

Your kid will become an american citizen by birth. But that WILL NOT help you or your husband's immigration status in anyway.

Here without any help, it is a HELL while medical emergency.

You keep this in mind while taking any decision.

              1. No

              2. Probably not. And I had a child 4 months ago. Normal delivery, no complications - all said and done, $25,000.00. Of which I paid $100 - rest of it was covered by insurance.

As someone else pointed out, the plus of your son/daughter being born in the US is that he's going to be a US citizen. US citizens can request an immigration visa for their parents when they're 21+ years old - not before.

And as someone else also said: stay where you are. Having your family around to help is certainly a plus - probably more than anything else
