regarding ssn(social security number)

shortly i am going to us on h1 visa,first i will go to my friends house and i will stay there 1 month,later i will move to my employer place which is in another state,my doubt is can i apply for ssn by stating my friends residene address as mine,or is there any compulsion that i have to apply from my employers place only.seniors please help me in this regard.

you can apply for ssn using your friend's address..just make sure that your friend maintains that address for atleast a month as the ssn card will be posted to the same address as mentioned in the form...Meanwhile, if u want the number for bank account purposes or w4, i9 purposes, Usually they will give u the number by phone if requested approx 2 to 3 weeks from the date of applying
