L1 H1 dilemma

Hi

I intially came to US on H1B whose petition is valid till Oct 07. But last year my company applied for for my L1 and i got that stamped and came to US with L1 on my I-94.

I took a vacation this year and when i re-entered US my I-94 was stamped as H1B at the POE. I never saw that until i came out of the airport.

Now, am i on H1 or on L1? Is it possible for me to do an H1 transfer if i want to swith to some other company.

It would be great if i get some guidance on my wife's part too ..

I got married in May and my company applied for an L2 for my wife. She is here in the US with me on L2.

Now what should i do when i do an H1 transfer to company B.

Can the new company apply for her H4 when she is in the US ... or will she have to go back to India and wait for H4 approval and then come.
