H1 and L1

Please suggest

I am in the US on an L1 visa now.
I applied for H1 approval this april and got my H1 petition approved.

I want to travel to India next month. Can I travel on L1 and come back?
Since my L1 visa is expired, I also need to get an L1 visa stamping when I go to India.

So, it it ok to travel to India and get a L1 stamping with my existing L1 papers even when I have a approved H1 petition ? I want to transfer to H1 visa in Nov 2007.

If you have received your H1B with I-94 and you re-enter on L1, you will loose your H1B as you will be given a new I-94 with L1 Status, (Check the I-94 # on our L1 and H1B are same) . Your petitioner might have requested a change of Status. If you enter on L1, you can not work on H1B from November. You must go outside and get an H1B visa stamped at the consulate and enter on H1B.

However, your petitioner may request a change of Status again after you enter on L1.
