Good day!

I just received the notice of action from USCIS granting my H1B petition but the validity of it runs from october 2007 through september , 2008. So that's only 1-year period. I believe that H1B petition has maximum 3 years validity. I have a contract with my employer for 2 & a half years. So when is the best time to renew my visa to remain in US? And how long will it take for me to obtain the extension of my visa?

It is maximum up to 3 years.

But expiration coincides with the LCA. Therefore, if your employer got their LCA 2 years back, your H1 would be valid only for 1 year.

You can file for extension 3-4 months in advance.
