  • H1-B interview location

I have recently received my H1-B petition and the required documents to appear for the interview. A particular section (I-797B) there says..."Class Consulate or POE (Port of Entry?) is New Delhi. However, my interview is scheduled in Kolkata. Is this an issue? Please advise ASAP

    Thanks.

---- When they have given you New Delhi for the interview, why do you change it. The US Consulate in Kolkata may direct you to go to New Delhi

---- However, if you do get the Visa stamped in Kolkata, then you are lucky. In which case, if you let us know we will be happy to note that if you can get a Visa at a US Consulate of your choice then anybody can do it and we may be proved wrong

      Further query

Thanks for the reply but here's further details to what happened. When I started scheduling the interview, 1) I was in the US (so all the four interview sites) were open to me. My correspondence with the VFS helpdesk informed me that I could do it at any place of my choice. 2) I didn't have the physical I-797 (Notice of Action) in my hand allthough I knew it was on my way. So I went ahead and booked 28th Sept, 2007 Kolkata. However, now that I have the I-797 it says the US Consulate which has been informed about the approval is New Delhi. It also adds..."In case you want us to inform any other US consulate then please ask the petitioner to fill out a particular form and send it to us. " I am just apprehensive now since I feel its too late to go through the procedure to inform the Kolkata consulate of the approval.
In that case should I cancel my appointment at the Kolkata consulate and book fresh dates at the New Delhi one? Please advise.

      Thanks

---- Yes, that is the best possible option available to you based on the details you have posted. As always follow what the government paper says. If not followed have convincing and appropriate answers readily available

My advice is to call vfs and ask. I dont think there should be a problem with venue change in this case.
