  • Surname and GivenName in Passport (H1B Visa)

    Greetings All,

I got my H1B Visa approved. I must thank to this forum as it really helped me in preparing for the interview.

I know I am late in asking this. But right now the situation is this -
In my passport, nSurname field is Empty. Give name has my full name 'Deepinder Singh'.

I followed the instructions for filling DS-156 and DS-157 forms and according to the that, now, my Surname = 'Deepinder Singh' and FirstName = "FNU" i.e. First Name Unknown.

I would like to know what problem I will have after I arrive in US. Is there any way to overcome this?

    Thanks for your help!
    ~Deepinder

There will not be any problem, we have seen many - whose first name / surname is FNU, this is a common story with Indian nationals. Welcome to the United States.

        Hi Deepinder,

The names should be as per passport, any changes in this contact near by VFS Centre..

You should fill the form(I 94) as per your passport not visa..
