new to H1 process !!!

I am in U.S..& planning to try for h1 process... I have completed MBA in india.. & specialized in a totally non-it subject. I dont know whether i will be eligible for H1 or not.
Can someone help me regarding what should i do if i am eligible or if i am not then what can i do to be eligible for it..??
I am also interested in studying [when not eligible] IT oriented courses... if so what can i start off with..?? [i dont have any basic knowledege] but i do know ms office..
To add on a few details i would like to stress that i need to find out some local consultants who can help me with this process.. can anyone suggest how i can find a local consultant in my place.. coz i cant relocate anywhere else....

---- Under what status are you in the US and for how long? You may have completed your degrees/diplomas and obtained certificates from anywhere in the world as long as they are genuine. Your intent and your suitability to do a job as determined by the employer is what matters

---- The employer who wants to employ you has to make the decision depending on the position he wants you to work for, get your credentials evaluated (to show that your degree is as good or equivalent to a similar degree in he US). There are many agencies in the US who do this and it depends on the employer whom he wants to choose

---- Contact the local community colleges/University departments and other learning institutions for courses available and those that suit your interests and purpose

I m on h4 n have been in u.s for almost a yr. But i would like to know that is it important for people applying for H1 to be in u.s for a long time or for more that a yr or so..??

I would like to know that is IT the main field employers/ consultants looking for while employing some one..??
Do u know people getting jobs in other fields on H1 like HR or marketing kind of jobs coz i have heard IT rules here... other jobs r tough bet to get..
can u suggest some consultants who do hire non-IT people...!!!!
