  • Consular districts guideline

    Hi,

I have been working at Hyderabad for couple of years now and as per my I797 I need to go for stamping to the US Embassy, New Delhi.

I understand that one must go for stamping to an Consulate / Embassy as per official guidelines.

Request to know if it would be fine for me to go to the US Embassy, New Delhi for stamping or would it be an issue. Request to know of similar experience(s).

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers,
    -Rajmohan

        Hi Ramabalaji,

        Thanks for your feedback.

My passport was issued at Hyderabad and I understand that I need to go to the US Consulate, Chennai for visa stamping but I am surprised to learn from my I797B that I am required to go to the US Embassy, New Delhi. Wonder what the reason could be. Any thoughts?

        Cheers,
        -Rajmohan

          Hi Mishra,

          Thanks for your feedback.

"If you are a resident of India, you are required to select your current ‘State of Residence’ where you have been residing for the past six months or longer. Later in the process, when you are scheduling your interview, you may see calendars offering dates at more than one post. If you are a fluent English speaker and have not been previously refused a visa, you may select an interview date from any post shown. If you are not fluent in English or were previously denied a visa, you must select a date only from the post covering the area where you reside."

          Any thoughts?

          Cheers,
          -Rajmohan

Do not get confussed with all informations. Since your passport is issued by Chennai consulate and at present you are working in Hyderabad for more than 6 months, you have to attend Chennai consulate only. It may be true in I797, it must have mentioned Delhi consulate but in reality you should attend Chennai only.
Prepare well with all the documents required and be confident to get a visa.

Appearing for H1-B stamping - which centre

                Hi,

I received the below feedback from the VFS Team. It is inline with the feedback I received from friends (both on this forum and others)

                ----------
If you are resident in India, you are required to appear for an interview at the visa section having jurisdiction over the territory where you have been resident during the past six months.

You must ensure that you have documentary evidence to prove the ‘State of Residence’ that you have selected to schedule the appointment. If it appears during the visa interview that you misrepresented your ‘State of Residence’, such facts will be noted on your case file and may adversely influence the outcome of your visa application.
                ---------

Hope this will be useful to few others as well.

                Thanks,
                -Rajmohan
