H1 Cap Gap - Advice Needed

As many of us are going through the problem of Cap gap
(The OPT period is getting over months before the H1 visa would be in status, thus leaving a long gap when we will not be allowed or maybe even stay in US), maybe some people who have gone through this experience before and found some solutions can give us some advice.
Specifically for my case my OPt would end in beginning of June, and my employer may not even agree to sponsor my H1 because of the 4 months gap when I cannot work until I can somehow become eligibl to work.
Questions -
1) can I join some colleges where I would be allowed to work on CPT.
2)Would there be a problem if my H1 is applied for in April, and my F1 status renewed or started again in May (for sme course in some college). Will it affect the H1 process?
3) Does anyone know of any colleges which would give me full time or part time CPT in the LA region?
4) Does anyone know of any good lawers who would be able to advice me on the same in the LA region - maybe anyone with the experience of handling similar cases?
Any advice and suggestions would eb greatly appreciated....
