Can I go for H1 interview to any consulate other than Class Consulate/POE?
I am a Bangalore based developer. I have received I797 approval for the year 2007 and I am about to approach a consulate for H1 interview. While applying for H1 earlier in the year, I had mentioned Calcutta as the preferred consulate as it is very close to my home town. I was planning to go to my home town once the visa interview got over.
I am now afraid that my H1 may get rejected if I go to Kolkata instead of going to Chennai. Since the Consulate at Chennai is the one that is closest to Bangalore, the consulate official at Kolkata may argue that I should have mentioned Chennai at the time of H1 filing. If I go to Chennai, the consulate official there may argue that since the Class Consulate as mentioned on the H1 approval is Kolkata, I should have gone to Kolkata instead. I am in a real catch-22 situation (of my own making). I am ready to go to either consulate, but I do not know what to do. Please help.
