H1 Extension query

Hi friends

My current H1 is valid till Apr 30, 2008. My H1 extension documents were forwarded to USCIS this monday. Today, my manager asked me to travel to Germany from Jan 7 to Jan 21 on some critical issue.

My questions are:

1. Is it legal to travel outside of US after filing for extension ?

2. First scenario- documents filed at USCIS but extension not approved by my return date - will I be allowed to come enter US on my current H1?
what will happen to my extension?

3. Second scenario - documents filed at USCIS and extension approved by my return date - will I be allowed to enter US on my current H1? What will happen to my extension?

If you return before (atleast a week) your stamped visa expiry, no problem at POE.

3. Second scenario - documents filed at USCIS and extension approved by my return date - will I be allowed to enter US on my current H1? What will happen to my extension?

You will be allowed only based on stamped visa validity not approved new H1 extn petition
