  • H1B-Might lose job in a few days what to do?

    Hi,
My emplaoyer is a small consultant company. Today they told me that the company is going to file for bankruptcy soon. I am on H1 and I know that I need to find a different employer soon. My question is that how long do I have after I receive the official termination notice to find a new employer in order to stay in status. What happens if I do not get an "official notice" and continue to work for the "client", will that buy me more time? (of course, I can say in my defence that I did not get the termination notice and only found out when I didnt get my paycheck).

    Thanks,
    V. Bopana.

Your consultancy's contract with the client will end when they file for bankruptcy and you will not be able to work with them anymore. Find a new employer asap.
