Visa transfer

I am an Indian citizen working in US on H1B visa. Last month I stamped my H1B visa at US consulate in Mumbai. I just realized that I have only 4 usable pages left on my passport. It’s my understanding that if I apply for a new passport in US, I should get it within couple of weeks.

What needs to be done to transfer the visa from old passport to the new passport? I am assuming that my old passport will be inactive as soon as I get the new passport.

Any help is appreciated.

Show both passports

Make sure that you get the old passport back. Even with an invalidated passport, the visa remains valid.
When you travel, you just show both passports.
