I 797 retained with consulate

Hi,

I got H1B visa in December 2007 by post at the time of delivery my passport i did not receive the I797 is it necessary to carry while going to usa,if it is necessary how to get from consulate chennai at the earliest. My employer asked me to reach by March 5th 2008 so you please help me out.

As far as I know, you need the original petition with you when you land @ POE in United States

Send Mail to consulate

Hi,
My case was similar they retained my original I 797 after stamping.

I was issued 221(g) in august last week and successfully stamped in Oct 3rd week.

when i recieved passport after stamping my original I 797 is missed, so i mailed consulate about the missing document, i got reply to my mail after 2 days stating that they will send the same if it was found in their files.

I have stated all details like interview date, docs send date through VFS and control number of appointment in mail.

After a week days i recieved my Original petition and all other docs which i sent in response to 221(g) through Blue Dart.
