Any visa to come to USA for job hunting?

Hi, I'm trying to find out the best kind of Visa to apply for. We are
planning to go to US to visit family and being from UK can go on Visa
Waiver Programme. However, my husband is keen to look for work whilst
there and from what I can gather that firstly isn't allowed and secondly
we can't change status. Is there a better way of going as a visitor with a
view to becoming employed?

The problem I have with that is my husband has not yet got a job in US. We wanted to go over for a long holiday and job hunt while there which we can't do on Visa Waiver. Is there any other Visa we can go on that enables my husband to find a job and gain an Employment Visa without having to fly back to UK while petition is filed?

No. There is no visa meant for coming to US for job hunting purposes.
