My passport is expiring on 10 May 2003. So I submitted an application for new passport at Indian consulate in Chicago. I should be getting the new passport on the 26 Dec 2002. The Indian consulate in Chicago told that, they will return the old passport stapled along with the new passport. They will cancel the old passport but will not cancel any valid visa on the old passport.
I had my H1-B visa stamped/revalidated on my old passport on the august of 2002. This visa is valid till May 2004. In the month of January 2003, I am planning to visit India. I would like to know if have to stamp/revalidate again the H1-B visa on to my new passport from US consulate in Chennai, India before I return to US.? If I don’t stamp visa on my new passport will it be a problem at port of exit in India and port of entry at Chicago?
